URGENT ACTION NEEDED: REGIONAL FAMILY PLANNING DISPARITY AND NEONATAL MORALITY STALLING POLICY BRIEF NO 01: DECEMBER 2023
Proposed Policy actions
1.
While there are regions with good progress on Family Planning (FP) uptake, nine (9) regions have very low uptake below national average and tailored strategies and interventions are recommended.
2.
While child mortality in general has declined over time, neonatal mortality has not declined and this calls for critical review and formulation of robust interventions to unlock factors that continue to cause neonatal death.
Context:
Global Financing Facility (GFF) phase 2 in Tanzania supports a number of indicators on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), and many of them seems to be on track. One role of advocacy for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) is to analyze progress towards targets and provide analytical view, comments and recommendations for improvement. This analysis focuses on two indicators that seems not to be on track and needs a critical look. The indicators analyzed here are modern contraceptive use and neonatal morality.
